My Heirloom Secretary. . .

What a history this Early American Style Secretary has!

I do believe I might have been seven or eight years old the first time ever I saw it.

You see,
this Secretary belonged to my MoMa. . .
and years ago, was gifted to me by my Dad!

So~o~o. . .
while we're 'social distancing' ourselves,
I decided it was a 'perfect timing' for 're~stylin' the Secretary!

After emptying completely and a through dusting and polishing,
I prepared the 'pigeon holes' for a bit of a refining
of the materials used on a daily basis within my Secretary.

Beginning with the center,
I placed some flora and personalized notecards with a blue color palette.

Next,
I added the brushed gold framed miniature photos of my dearest Sister and I.

Filling the voided space,
I used a vintage, shell shaped, hand painted bird motif miniature dish.

Next,
working from left~to~right, I began filling in the remaining 'pigeon holes'.

Hand crocheted miniature doily, and some Victorian seed packets
provide a vintage backdrop for my size 2 and size 3 vintage inkwells.

Spring flora note cards tied with sheer olive green ribbon,
a remnant of sheet music and a pair of silver birds complete the left side.

A touch of bright blue in my Thank You cards
brings the eye all the way across the 'pigeon holes' to the opposite side.

Die~cut Lily of the Valley note card
and a trio of hand~stamped oval rose gift tags complete the 'pigeon holes'.

Quite a refined and refreshing appearance to the once hodge~podge of items.

Beginning once again in the center,
I filled the back space of the desktop with a Tulip print note card
and a vintage brass and glass inkwell.

I use the space, that would have been used for writing pens
to the side of the inkwell, for elegantly inspired postage stamps.
I adore these Madonna and Child postage stamps from Christmas!

From left ~ to ~right,
I've placed the items that are used weekly from my heirloom Secretary.

While this may seem to be an excess of notecards, postage, stationery
and thank you cards, at least one or more of these items is used on a daily basis.

Oh, and I mustn't forget the most important items on the desktop!

Honestly,
I would be lost without my many "lists".

Like the freshness of the air after a gentle Spring rain
is the 're~stylin' of my heirloom Secretary.

Until next time. . .

Dear Ones,
My heart goes out to each and every follower of On Crooked Creek
during these extremely trying times we face as a Nation, as each State,
as each County, as each Town and as each family.

The Land of Blog has remained an outlet of my creativity and expression.
But, do not let it appear that my heart is not deeply troubled during this
'social distancing' as prescribed to 'flatten the curve' during the Covid -19 pandemic.

"Mr. Ed" and I, like many of you, are doing our part by staying at home,
except for necessities, and want to encourage and uplift you as you do the same.
May God pour out His blessings upon each and every one of us as we endure.
In my heart, I do believe. . ."this too, shall pass."
Fondly,
Pat

Bringing About Changes. . .

2020 will bring about some h u g e changes On Crooked Creek.

"Mr. Ed" and I are not trying to re~establish
(or re~decorate) every inch of our 1970's Ranch Style Home in this New Year.

But, rather bring about changes to our home
that truly reflect our personal desires, tastes and needs.

Over the past decades,
we accumulated and collected w a y to much 'stuff'!

So~o~o. . .
2020 will find us continuing to edit, edit, edit.

By removing all those unnecessary things we've acquired
will allow us the freedom to make enhanced choices in our interior home design.

Last year,
I posted several months of My Favorite Things.

By creating these posts,
I realized I have kept an enormous amount of 'stuff'
that no longer appeals to me.

My creative space, Studio One,
along with our Family Room had become filled to the brim with 'cast~offs'.

One thing that will remain the same On Crooked Creek
will be my continued creating and designing
Seasonal Changes throughout the New Year.

It is my hope that you will see fresh ideas to use within your own home decor
in ways that, perhaps, you hadn't thought of in the past.

Also,
I will encourage you to take a 'close~up' look
at the things you truly love and those you've held onto out of obligation.

Stay tuned. . .
for scenes of the changes to come in 2020. . . On Crooked Creek!

Until next time. . .

Dreams Really Do Come True. . .

Borrowing a Disney phrase. . .
"Anything your heart desires will come to you."

On Crooked Creek, dreams really do come true!

Two years ago,
"Mr. Ed and I made a room switch within On Crooked Creek's East Wing.
Our former Guest Room is now our Home Office. . .

While searching my Inspiration Home Decor Files,
I came across my dream Guest Room from Faded Charm.

I adore the vintage creamy ivory bed and the white night stands
within this Faded Charm bedroom.

Using this room as my inspiration, I decided to paint my vintage
Jenny Lind full size bed Paper White from Sherwin~Williams.

You can see in these before photos
the poor condition of this headboard and foot board.

With only two coats of primer,
a huge improvement to the overall appearance of the foot board!

I, also, painted my heirloom vintage night stand.

I wasn't pleased with the quality of the primer I used.

Usually,
I can paint one coat of primer, two coats of paint and be thrilled.

On this night stand,
I used one coat of primer, sanded the top and shelf,
then added a second coat of primer. . .
and three coats of paint before I was pleased with the results.

Once the paint had fully cured, I did some light distressing.

Shortly after Christmas,
"Mr. Ed" and I found this primitive bench on a 40% off $ale @ Hobby Lobby.

It is the perfect size for sitting on while putting on your socks and shoes.

Painting this vintage Jenny Lind full size bed and heirloom night stand
have made this, truly, a dream come true for On Crooked Creek's Guest Room.
