Autumnal Hues. . .

Hang on to your seats, dear ones. . .
we are about to embark upon my favorite Season of the year
                                                                                     . . . Autumn!

My Traditional decor On Crooked Creektt,
in the upper level Living Room, consists primarily of reds, golds and greens.

So~o~o, this past week
I began making the Seasonal change~over
by re~arranging the china cabinets in the Dining Room.

The inspiration came from a recent visit
to one of my favorite Antique and Home Decor Shops 
while making a visit to see my Dad in Fort Scott, Kansas!

After aquiring this adorable Pumpkin Tea Pot,
I knew it must be displayed  where I could enjoy its daily viewing. 

My Bordallo Pinheiro Majolica Collection fills this cabinet nicely.
Therefore, I decided to make each section of the shelves into vignettes!!!

We'll begin with the left side view of the built~in china cabinet.

This petite cauliflower tea pot,
along with the bee lidded cream and sugar set,
were vacation finds in Weston, Missouri earlier this Summer.
Notice how my Majolica plate collection 
poses as a decorative backdrop for the vignette?

Many times, I find a piece while vacationing
only to find another piece on another trip
and am amazed how they all work well together.
This holds true to the above vignette, 
the Pumpkin Teapot a $5 find in Iola, Kansas
while the lidded cream and sugar were Tuesday Morning finds 
at Osage Beach, Missouri. 

The Pumpkin Plate 
was purchased at Heartland Antique Mall in Lebanon, Missouri
while the white pumpkins are two years ago Dollar Tree finds!

Now, onto the right side of the built~in china cabinet.

A few years ago, 
I spotted this Majolica Blueberry Tea Set @ Iron Star.
This has been one of my favorite purchases from the Shop.

My newest Pumpkin Tea Pot 
co~ordinates well with a lidded Pumpkin Tureen
found @ Heartland Antiques Mall in Lebanon, Missouri.

I grouped together a variety of pitchers in similar hues
to create a cohesiveness and to add subtle textures.
My Dad gifted me with the large brown pitcher,
the honey~hued rimmed pitcher was purchased in Salina, Kansas
as was the basket~weave bee design creamer.

The creamer was purchased to co~ordinate 
with these adorable salt and pepper shakers I purchased locally
@ Roadhouse Antiques here in Derby, Kansas.

All~in~all,
I'm thrilled with the addition of Autumnal hues 
in my Dining Room built~in china cabinet!

Carrying a similar color palette to the vignette below,
I've added my honey hued with brown rimmed chili pepper plates
to my wrought iron plate stand surrounded by 
select pieces of my bee collection.

Instead of a runner,
I chose to alternate three placemats to ground the vignette.

"Mr. Ed's" pine box houses our everyday Sage green dinnerware
combined with my favorite Knife . Fork . Spoon dishtowel.

For ease of accessibility, vintage juice glasses rimmed in green 
hold individual forks, knives and spoons.

Autumn, my favorite Seaon of the year,
has just begun to make its way into the decor On Crooked Creektt!

The addition of Autumnal Hues,
combined with my Bordallo Pinheiro Majolica Collection,
should span the season from Summer~to~Autumn 
with just the needed amount of color.

Wedding Reception Tables. . .

Witnessing one of the most beautiful weddings
I've had the privilege to attend would have been totally enough
for this hopeless romantic. . .

but to be asked to design and create
the Wedding reception tables was an experience
that I shall long remember here On Crooked Creektt.

Each table began with a white tablecloth with black overlay.
The Brides choice of accent hue, 
wide fuchsia ribbon placed beneath a silver tray, 
gives the festive atmosphere to this joyous occasion!

Atop each silver tray rest a bird's nest,
handmade by "Mr. Ed" and I for this blissful occasion.

Clear glass cylinders filled with twigs include the nature theme
that surrounds the location of the Wedding 
and the new home for this couple.


Designing the head table 
was also part of my duties for the Wedding Reception. . .
but the Aunts and Cousins all pitched in with the actual decorating 
sharing in the joy of this celebration!!! 

The bright fuchsia floral arrangement 
was designed by the Mother~of~the ~Bride.

A fuchsia printed napkin, place card and menu
at each member of the Wedding Party place setting.
Glass cylinders filled with fuchsia beads held a bridesmaids bouquet.

Having designed the swag for the cake table,
I had no idea of the impact it would create, until it was photographed.
The week before the Wedding,
I stitched the swag and attached the bows,
florals and the fuchsia bling cascades!

This photo of the Cake Table was taken by my friend, the Mother~of~the ~Bride.

Fuchsia ribbons tied in a single bow 
with silk white roses and beaded pearl and tulle
adored the toasting glasses, knife and cake server.

The Groom's cake,
with the mints and nuts complete this table!

Ladies, you know, I couldn't have done all of the required styling 
without the aid of On Crooked Creektt's Resident Decorator, "Mr. Ed"!!!
He looks so darned handsome all dressed up. . .
made my heart go "pitter~pat"!!!

Truly, a "fairy~tale" Wedding 
and a sensational experience for me On Crooked Creektt!
I shall ponder the events of this day throughout my life.

A Special 'Thank~You' to my friend and her daughter,

Dressing Lizzie. . .

Spending some time in my creative space, 
affectionately titled, Studio One. . .

I brought a touch of Autumn to my vintage dress form, Lizzie!

Although this space is well equipped 
with a fabulous sewing machine and sewing notions. . .
I  h a t e  to  s e w !!!

However,
Lizzie had been left 'undressed' since returning 
from being "on loan" from my friends daughters Wedding Reception!

So~o~o. . .
finding fabric that I had purchased nearly 25 years ago
(thinking I would make the fabric into an apron), I pinned the fabric on Lizzie.

I know this year's fashion has showcased many a  sheath dress,
but when I was learning to sew. . .
we called these styles a "sack dress".

A "sack dress" original in Studio One
using a Philip's Bag grain products sack!

By just pinning a shoulder seam along the top with straight pins,
and folding the neck line under, I have a simple "sack" dress or sheath.

Once the "sack dress" was adjusted, I firmly attached the back 
by pushing T~pins into the knit portion of the dress form.

I accessorized using a burlap wired ribbon as a bow around the high~neck 
and as a belt around the bloused middle.

Vignettes ~ Interlude In White!

While taking the Let There Be White Challenge. . .
I created some dining room Vignettes ~ Interlude In White!

I am fortunate to have two buffets On Crooked Creektt,
one is an heirloom from my beloved maternal Grandmother
the other is a built~in buffet in our 1970's Ranch Style Home.

The Let There Be White Challenge 
stated that you must use all white dinnerware. 
On the built~in buffet, I used my everyday porcelain white dinnerware
arranged in the gray box made my "Mr. Ed".

Draped to one side,
is a vintage hankie with all white embroidered Lily of The Valley.
I adore how the texture of the hankie 
compliments the details of the all~white dinnerware.

A three~arm candelabra
adorned with white pip berry candle rings and creamy ivory tapers
brings needed height to this vignette.
White porcelain pears add a sense of sculptured still~life.

The opposite side of this  Vignettes ~ Interlude In White
showcases my silver coffee urn.

In keeping with the Let There Be Light Challenge,
I used my everyday porcelain white serving platter 
instead of my usual silver tray.

My beloved maternal Grandmother's silver cream and sugar
have begun to erode and loose their silver plating on the handles.
I prefer to leave them in this condition
as a reminder to me that they were once used on a daily basis.

Simplistic beauty, imparting a sense of tranquility,
 is achieved by using the purity of white.

I've paired the purity of white 
with the sparkle and shine of silver and the subtle shade of grey.

My accent color of choice is the true red 
in the background of my Traditional Waverly wallpaper.

Vignettes ~ Interlude In White 
continues on my heirloom buffet.

This message on my silver chalkboard tray 
sums up our Summer life here On Crooked Creektt!

A welcoming palette of soothing tones
using sparkling cut crystal, white florals, creamy ivory ironstone 
and shimmering silver makes 'the livin' easy', indeed!

White ironstone vases within the glass cabinet doors
continue the Let there Be White Challenge!

I've showcased my heirloom silver tea set
using the same soothing tones of pure white.

As I strive to meet the Let There Be White Challenge,
I turned not only my tablescape (here) 
into a welcoming palette of soothing hues,
but my entire dining room with a continuance of elegant style.

"Mr. Ed" and I have been enthralled and soothed 
by the tranquil surroundings of our interior design
as we have by the continued lush green surroundings
of the Gardens of our exterior design.
