Fourth of July Past. . .

Many of my followers know that On Crooked Creek
was lost into cyber space for nearly a year and a half.

During that time,
while I was unable to access my blog,
I posted photos to face book with short descriptions.

So~o~o. . .
I am creating a post from of our Fourth of July Past decor.

My vintage dress form, affectionately named "Lizzie"
(shortened form of Elizabeth) was brought into On Crooked Creek's Entry Hall
for our family Fourth of July Celebration!

I draped "Lizzie" in a U.S. Flag
and embellished her with a vintage lace collar,
a strand of heirloom pearls and cameo
and added two Dollar $tore U. S. Flags tucked into the crease of her shoulder.

Simplistic Dollar Tree paper fan folded in half
and a Dollar $tore U.S. Flag add a touch of "fan fare"
to the vintage piano sheet music holder behind the front door.

A touch of red, white and blue
was added to On Crooked Creek's Dining Room buffet and hutch.

A Fourth of July Fanfare Centerpiece

created using Dollar Tree accessories was truly co$t effective and festive!

I used two packages of $1 paper folded fans,

two $1 plastic pinwheels and one $1 U.S. Flag tucked neatly between
vintage creamy ivory ironstone plates and saucers and faux red hydrangea.

Love the heirloom vintage white towels with red embroidery
for cushioning the vintage ironstone and as a table runner!

One last simplistic Fourth of July decoration
for the built~in china cabinet within On Crooked Creek's Dining Room.

As you celebrate this Fourth of July holiday,
may you pause and reflect on the true "co$t" of the many freedoms we experience.

Family Room Summer Primitive Cabinet. . .

A severe weather alert day On Crooked Creek

took "Mr. Ed" and I to the lower level Family Room for the day.

So~o~o. . .
while we were waiting out the storm,
I did a re~style of the Primitive Cabinet for Summer.

I always enjoy using my decorating accessories in a variety of ways,
especially within the unique spaces provided in this primitive cabinet.

No two shelves are the same height or width,
leaving me the challenge of what goes where.

The middle section of shelving within the Primitive Cabinet
is an excellent example of some of the problematic areas.

I used books for color, fillers, texture, and risers.

Another challenge is the placement of accessories atop the Primitive Cabinet.

The Primitive Cabinet fills a corner area at the bottom of the stairs.
I've placed it at an angle to fill the space entirely.

Any item placed on the top,
such as the basket, must be propped with books or easels.

However;

at the bottom of the Primitive Cabinet, the opposite is true.

The tall legs of the cabinet allow for a vintage blanket basket.
Just the perfect place for storing quilts for snuggling during movie night.

This unique 'planter' is made from tree bark.
I love the texture it brings to our Family Room.

A plaid Pendleton wool blanket is tucked neatly inside awaiting use
during this damp, cooler weather of our severe weather alert day.

On Crooked Creek, a somewhat perfectly imperfect day
to re~style the Family Room Primitive Cabinet.

1950's Restaurant Ware Collection. . .

One of my favorite things On Crooked Creektt,
is my collection of Restaurant Ware dinnerware.

So~o~o,
this week while the temperatures are soaring in the upper 90's
with heat indexes into the 105 ~ 110 degree range,
I set a simplistic Summer tablescape with my Restaurant Ware Collection.

My collection of Restaurant Ware dates from the 1950's.
Simple (heavy) white ironstone with green detailing.

One of the reasons it is near and dear to my heart
is the fact that my beloved maternal grandmother owned and operated
a cafe in the 1940's ~1950's, known as Ford's Cafe.

Featured in the above photo,
beginning on your left is my Aunt Dorothy,my MoMa's younger sister.
My beloved Grandmother is in the middle.
My MoMa's youngest sister, Aunt Jeanne is on your right.

Although the photos are a collection of Don Miller,
it is believed that my MoMa, (pictured above) Carmen took the photograph.

I combined my 1950's Restaurant Ware Collection
atop a layered heirloom vintage white damask tablecloth,
followed by a vintage white linen tablecloth
and finished with a vintage heirloom white table topper.

The layering of tablecloths,
is not something that would have been done in Ford's Cafe,
but rather comes from the days of my youth
watching the Banquet Hall being prepared at The Townhouse Hotel in KCK.

I began by designing a petite floral arrangement
into my Restaurant Ware Collection dinner roll lidded bowl.

Next,
I added my Restaurant Ware dinnerware.

Round dinner plate, butter pat, saucer and coffee cup.
All in the heavy white ironstone with a heavy green band and a thin green band.

My finished place setting also, features a bread ( dinner roll) plate.

I used my vintage juice glasses with a green band,
my everyday Oneida stainless steel flatware and the matching luncheon napkin.

On Crooked Creektt, the temperatures are sweltering out ~of ~doors,
but I've done my very best to keep the decor light and bright
with a cool green and white color palette using my Restaurant Ware Collection.
