How Do I Love Thee?

Sonnet 43
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach,
when feeling out of sight for the ends of being and ideal grace.

I love thee to the level of every day's most quiet need,
by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for right.

I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use in my old griefs,
and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints.

I love thee with the breath,

smiles, tears, of all my life;
and if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Dear Ones,
This is the Sonnet I chose to read to "Mr. Ed" during our Wedding Ceremony.
It is also printed in the front of our Wedding Book.
How Do I Love Thee? holds as true today as it did June 7, 1969.
The heartfelt sentiments are a perfect compliment
to On Crooked Creektt's Entry Hall decor for Valentine's Day.
Fondly,
Pat

A beautiful sonnet of love and how appropriate for your wedding. Also how very romantic, I'm not a romantic at all...but I love a good love story...which yours was/is.

your hearts and roses were as beautiful to look at as the sonnet was to read, and your wedding story warmed my heart.

Pat, that is so touching, and so is the history of the years you've been able to live out that sonnet! Your buttons and lace hearts are divine!

How pretty and romantic! Pretty pictures and I love that poem although I think I've only heard part of it used frequently. You must be close to my Dan's age- he graduated in 1967.
