My Favorite Things. . .Vol. I

My Favorite Things. . .
is the chosen title of a new post On Crooked Creektt.

I hope to feature a few of My Favorite Things throughout 2015!

The idea comes from my years of merchandising.
One of my various job descriptions and duties
was to artfully display home decor in 'pleasing~to~the~eye' vignettes.

To tell your story, one must set the stage.

Several of my closest friends have commented,
that watching me stage or style a display
is liken to that of a conductor directing an orchestra.

I began with a grouping of like objects.
Varying height, hues and texture keeps a cohesive appeal.

I adore harmonious blending of treasured heirlooms
with timeless classic finds, as seen above with the coffee urn
and the vintage ironstone oval serving platter.

Many decorators will tell you to leave open spaces
giving the eyes a place to rest.

While I'm trying to accomplish more 'resting places'
within On Crooked Creektt's design,
my thoughts here are to disguise the background for a monochromatic style.

Embracing my Traditional Roots
and combining my Southern influenced upbringing,
my overall goal of each component in my home design is that of hospitality.

In 2015,
my hope for each of you is that you
*embrace change
*find joy
*pursue your passions.

Thank you for allowing me to share
a few of My Favorite Things!

Until next time. . .

Flirting With Winter Weather!

Here On Crooked Creektt,
we've been flirting with Winter weather.

So far this Winter,
we have seen temperatures in the upper 50's!

I cut back all the herbs in On Crooked Creektt's Herb Garden,
but the parsley thinks it's Spring and keeps returning!

None the less. . .
I'm flirting with Winter weather in the Dining Room!

As you can see by my silver trayscape,
winter whites with a touch of green mercury glass
serves as a flirtatious centerpiece.

I adore the silver topped vintage salt and pepper shakers!

Some are plain molded glass,
while others are intrigue cut crystal.

The jeweled front of the green mercury glass tea light
is reminiscent of Winter's finest snowflakes!

My first tablescape of 2015
features a classic black and white checked place mat
against a tablecloth laden with Winter snowflakes!

I've selected my everyday white porcelain dinnerware.
I chose this dinnerware because I'm convinced that the embossed
pattern is that of pressed snowflakes!

Everyday Oneida flatware,
combined with our bubble glass stemware,
keeps clean~up as cool as a Winter breeze!

On the menu tonight is a bowl of steaming hot
homemade vegetable soup from the left~over Christmas pot roast.

Yummy!!!

Made the day after Christmas, then frozen for busy times On Crooked Creektt.

While the scenery beyond the patio doors
is liken to that of sunny West Coast, On Crooked Creektt. . .
I'll keep flirting with Winter weather!

Silver And Gold. . .

Silver and gold,
                    Silver and gold. . .
I love hearing this vintage Burl Ives Christmas Carol each year.

Christmas On Crooked Creekt
is fashionably decorated in silver and gold
on the upper level Christmas Tree.

A 6 foot Traditional Fir Christmas Tree
is decked in silver, gold, creamy ivory
and an abundance of miniature white lights.

By using a variety of spheres, circular ornaments
and a sprinkling of over sized snowflakes,
I've created interest within a monochromatic color palette.

All around the perimeter,
gold wired ribbon adorns the Traditional Christmas Tree.
An occasional silver leaf pic fills in void areas.

High atop the tree
sits a porcelain Angel of coordinating hues.

I adore her ethereal appearance!

A white Christmas Tree skirt
trimmed in subtle, shimmering gold
and donning silver snowflakes encircles the base of our tree.

Silver and gold,
                     silver and gold. . .
ready for the making of priceless memories for Christmas On Crooked Creektt!

Merry Christmas!

Until next time. . .
