Curtain Call!!!

The time it took to find new draperies
for our upper level Living Room On Crooked Creektt
took what seemed like f o r e v e r !

After. . .

Honestly,
I began my search right after Christmas 2014,
but didn't find what I was looking for until June 2015.

. . . Before

Arriving On Crooked Creektt,
originally, I had creamy ivory sheers with embroidery and seed pearls.
The Roman Shades in wheat were a perfect match.

I l o v e d those sheer curtains!
I still do!
It just was time for an update.

Time for a Curtain Call!!!

The reason  that choosing curtains was so~o~o complicated
was my list of "must haves":
* Must coordinate with furnishings, carpeting and paint
in both the Living Room and Dining Room.
* Had to have a pocket header and hang in pleats.
The draperies must be lined.
* Must be machine washable.
* Had to stay within my $200.00 budget.

That was no easy feat!

On Crooked Creektt's Living Room has three windows
plus the Dining Room's patio door.

So~o~o. . .
from January ~ to ~June,
On Crooked Creektt's Living and Dining Rooms had no window coverings.

January . . .

I was thrilled to find lined drapes on $ale
that "Mr. Ed" and I could cover the three Living Room windows
plus the Dining Room patio doors for $30.00 under budget !

. . . June

I adore the subtle pattern within the drapes!
The lighter hue is a perfect match to the Roman Shades wheat color!

After. . .

. . . Before

The color and pattern blends harmoniously
with the rug and the furnishings within On Crooked Creektt's Dining Room.

After. . .

. . . Before

While adding the Timeless Classic elegance
I was seeking for On Crooked Creektt's Living Room.

After

This Curtain Call was well worth the wait!

Until next time. . .

Autumn's First Call. . .

Although the temperature dictates we're still experiencing Summer. . .
Autumn's First Call has arrived On Crooked Creektt!

Before "Mr. Ed" had completed the modification
to the built~in china cabinet in On Crooked Creektt's Dining Room,
I was already designing and styling Autumn's First Call!
(Those modifications can be viewed here . . .Requests???)

A creature of habit,
I always begin at the top left shelf and work my way in a zig~zag pattern.

A vintage ironstone platter softens the wooden surfaces of the cabinetry
and provides  for a cohesive backdrop for the Haviland lidded tureen,
Johnson Brothers English saucer and the Homer Laughlin ironstone sugar bowl.

Stacked cups and saucers from my everyday white porcelain china
are ready for serving family and friends as the Season's gatherings draw near.

Extra vintage creamy ivory plates and saucers are placed within easy reach
for quick access at a moment's notice of additional guests arrival.

The middle shelf is a scarce 8 inches high,
but holds my vintage crystal rose embossed glassware for ease of accessibility.

My petite creamy ivory lidded tureen
accompanied by scalloped berry and soup bowls fill the right side of the top shelf.

Crisp whites fill the bottom right shelf.
My Avon pear tea pot with matching lidded creamer and sugar bowl
are paired with a milk glass plate gifted to me by Sister at my last visit.

Autumn's First Call will transcend from Summer ~to ~ Autumn
by simply switching out the faux pears with my collection of glass pumpkins.

I had already begun to style the open shelf space,
with additional transition design, before "Mr. Ed" completed my "requests".

The newest of my vintage white collection,
this large Sheffield Bone White USA Platter
is placed inside my grey wooden tool box.

I'm quite pleased with the differentiating of china companies
and the variety of hues, from pristine white ~ to~ creamy ivory,
as these pieces blend harmoniously together.

The two silver rimmed tea cups and saucers are 'un~marked' ,
while the creamer and lidded sugar bear the
Johnson Brothers Ironstone trademark.

The heirloom vintage gold linen luncheon napkins
were a part of my Bridal Shower gifts. I adore the lace rose appliques.
The vintage Canon plaid linen tea towel is an Antique / Flea Market find.

The right side of the open shelf is filled with a wrought iron tray
featuring a petite tea pot and creamer from the Johnson Brothers Ironstone collection.

The vintage Canon gold stripe linen tea towel
features intricate tatting using variegated gold and white crochet thread.

The roses are "fresh" from On Crooked Creektt's Rose Garden.
I adore their variety of hues at this time of year,
from vibrant gingersnap ~to~soft coral~to~ soft creamy ivory.
( The Gingersnap Roses can be viewed here. . .Summer's Last Stand. . . )

Throughout the year, my heirloom Coffee Urn holds its place of presence,
in On Crooked Creektt's Dining Room built~in china buffet.

I am quite fortunate to have such a talented, willing and able husband,
my sweet "Mr. Ed", to make my life On Crooked Creektt one of ease and beauty.

Together,
"Mr. Ed" and I welcome Autumn's First Call!!!

Requests???

The lazy hazy days of Summer On Crooked Creektt
have left "Mr. Ed" with w a y too much time on his hands.

So~o~o. . .
over morning coffee when he turned to me and ask, "Any request???"
I seized the moment!

Each time I re~style On Crooked Creektt's built~in Dining Room china cabinet,
I wish the bottom shelf was raised about an inch allowing for accessories
to better be viewed when the glass cabinet doors are closed.

No sooner said than. . .
with tape measure in hand, "Mr. Ed" set out to remedy my cabinet.

He measured, cut and hammered a removable brace to the lower cabinet shelf.

When I inquired as to why he had chosen to make the shelf temporary,
I remember "Mr. Ed" stating something to the fact,
"In case you change your mind and later want me to remove the shelf".

What an amazing difference "Mr. Ed's" handiwork made
when I began re~styling On Crooked Creektt's
Dining Room built~in china cabinet!

Coffee,
one totally amazing husband. . .
                                                                         and a simple request.

Until next time. . .
