Whispers of Autumn. . .

On Crooked Creektt is participating in
Cuisine Kathleen's Purple Fall Tablescape Challenge!

Purple is the one hue that is near to non~existence
in our 1970's Ranch Style Home.

However,
a "touch of purple" can be found
in my Hutschenreuther Arzberg~Bavaria Germany Coffee Set.

Therein lies the inspiration for my Purple Hues Tablescape.

Centerpieces are challenging to me.

As a child ~ right through adulthood~
my main responsibility to our family tablescapes
was to assemble the place settings for the evening meal.

So~o~o. . .
gathering the tablecloth, place mats, and dinnerware
is always an easy task when preparing any tablescape.

* * * * * * * Tutorial * * * * * * *

I began with a white linen hemstitch tablecloth,
to which I added silver chargers for romantic ambiance.

Next,
I placed my everyday white porcelain dinner plates
and dessert / salad plates atop the chargers.

This dinnerware pattern was chosen especially
for our Thanksgiving Dinner years ago.
I love the embossed oak leaf design and the delicate beading on the rim.

Then,
as the base for my centerpiece,
I placed the wrought iron shabby chic footed tray
in the center for proper positioning.

This tray was one of the amazing purchases I made
while visiting Robin's Vintage Suitcase in Springfield
during our Annual Trout Fishing Trip to Bennett Spring State Park.

Atop the stacked everyday white porcelain dinnerware,
I added the dessert plate from my Bavaria Coffee Set.

This is the first of my Bavaria Coffee Sets
"Mr. Ed" bought for me while we were stationed in Baumholder, Germany.

I was as smitten with the embossed lacy trim then, as I am today.

Rose etched crystal stemware
and my heirloom Reed and Barton silver flatware
aside the matching demitasse cup and saucer
complete this side of the place setting.

I used the napkin fold taught to me by my MoMa in my youth
with a linen hemstitch napkin,
then tied it off with a single French Silk Purple Ribbon.

Green mercury glass votives with battery tea lights
keep that romantic ambiance as evening shadows rapidly approach.

My favorite faux fruit for home decor,
la poire, tied in a double bow of French Silk Grey and Purple Silk Ribbon
continues the color palette completing the place setting.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

To assemble the centerpiece,
I used a heirloom porcelain compote
with a touch of purple along its base for added height.

Within the center of the compote,
I placed a glass candle lid before adding a green and brown hued pumpkin,
grave vines combined with amber and brown Aspen
and creamy ivory and brown velvet Maple leaves, surround the pumpkin.

At the base of the compote,
another co~ordinating pumpkin was placed
alongside a tied bouquet of purple ranunculus faux florals.

I bound the stems of the bouquet in co~ordinating
French Silk Green and Purple Ribbon and tied it off in a double bow.

Additional grape vines and autumnal hued leaves
with a few random acorns continue around the base of the wrought iron tray.

A seldom seen view from On Crooked Creektt's  Dining Room
into my Galley Style Kitchen.

A soft, romantic, subtly spoken Purple Hue Tablescape
whispers of Autumns arrival On Crooked Creektt.

What a gorgeous table. I love the layering you achieved and think a touch of purple makes for a beautiful fall touch. I am determined to finish painting the living room so i can get my fall on soon! You've inspired me friend.

Beautifully assembled Pat! Lov the soft touches of purple. I had a hard time with this one too- and the only purple in any dishes I have is just a slight bit of it in the dishes I chose. Your table is elegant and refined- love it!

I like your "whisper" of purple tables caper rather than the "shout" so many others have!

Purple is a good fall color!

What a beautiful setting, Pat! I've seen quite a few blogs, lately, where people are incorporating royal purple into their decor. It just adds so much to a setting/room. I've got to find a way to use it in my decor!

Your centerpiece doesn't look like it was a challenge at all. It looks very nicely and effortlessly put together as if you were totally at ease with the process. Well done! I know centerpieces can be daunting, but as long as you have a focused idea in mind about what you want it to convey, you're good to go! I like how you used the riser to elevate it from the fabric on the table and give it more of a "gallery" look.

You were super, super wise to break up the deep purple with lots of white! Purple can look almost black when it's used in abundance without something bright to let it stand out. You avoided that saturated look by bringing in the white elements. I think it's so great that you still love the first coffee set your husband bought you in Germany. So sweet!!!

Wonderful job! You met the challenge head on! Have a great weekend!

Wow! So many wonderful elements pulled together to make this amazing table setting. I would have trouble finding purple in my house too but it certainly fits in with the Fall decor. You have a talent dear Pat. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you,
Patti

To think that you don't have much purple in your home you surely did a fantastic job on this table setting! It is so lovely!
