Dear Ones,

The words from Sunday’s Choral Anthem

had such precious meaning to me, my Dad’s health fails daily.

Last evening, I received a phone call that my Dad had passed

from this earth to his heavenly home.

Yes, My Jesus Loves Me:

From His shining throne on high,

Comes to watch me where I lie.”

. . .”If I love Him, when I die

He will take me home on high,

has transitioned to his eternal home.

My Favorite Things. . .Vol. II

Either those who know me well,
or those whom have known me through the ages,
know far too well. . .I don't like chickens!

But. . .
my chicken wire cabinet 
in On Crooked Creektt's 1970's Galley Style Kitchen,
seemed the appropriate spot to place a "chick".

Upon his retirement, 
I commissioned "Mr. Ed" to bring a bit of French Country 
into On Crooked Creektt's kitchen by removing the wooden insets
to the cabinet doors above the range hood and inserting chicken wire.

Once completed,
I filled the cabinet with my ever growing 1940's ~1950's Restaurant ware.

The second in my featured series, these are a few of My Favorite Things!

I l o v e this classic green stripe on white!
It brings back the fond memories of my childhood 
and eating at the local diner with my family.

During our Annual Trout Fishing Trip to Bennett Spring State Park,
I was fortunate to add two unique pieces to my collection.

The first,
a lidded bowl, is a dinner roll bowl.
Petite in stature and the exact size of a square dinner roll!

The lidded bowl in this vignette is a biscuit bowl.
Again, petite in stature, but shaped round like a biscuit!
These were popular aboard Railroad Diner Cars.

The opposite side of the cabinet has been custom designed
with the addition of a shelf to allow for storing the numerous serving pieces.

The second, 
a lidded jar, is a condiment jar.

While "Mr. Ed" envisions this petite jar filled with Strawberry Jam,
I can imagine the delicious homemade Piccadilly Relish of his Mothers.

A trio of glass pitchers brought from our travels in Germany,
are now given a restful place of honor among one of my favorite things!

During our residency in Europe,
these pitchers were filled with syrup, orange juice and milk
as they graced our daily breakfast table.

The dinner plates within this collection are a meager 8 inches in diameter.

However,
it is the oval platters that I enjoy most!
They remind of the days gone by filled with a hamburger and fries!

Although, "Mr. Ed" found these coffee mugs (background) at our local Antique Mall,
it is the cup and saucer that I remember my parents using for their cups of coffee.


The simplistic style of this dinnerware not only
brings memories of a simpler way of life,
but it reminds me of my beloved maternal Grandmother's Restaurant. 
Simply called Ford's Cafe.

Placed within On Crooked Creekt's 1970's Galley Style Kitchen
this simplistic restaurant ware beckons me to embrace change, 
yet brings me great joy in reminiscing of my loved ones
and encourages me to pursue my passion 
of cooking and entertaining within my home.

In 2015,
my hope for each of you is that you
*embrace change
*find joy
*pursue your passions.

2015's Project #1. . .

Renewal, my chosen word for 2015. 

One word,
yet it holds multiple meanings On Crooked Creektt in 2015. 

"Mr. Ed" and I have taken up the first project for 2015
right where we left off in August 2014 with the Entry Hall.

What began as a two day (at the most) contractual installation 
of inlaid ceramic tile was over a month long in duration.(here)

Before. . .

Then,
"Mr. Ed" was stricken with a stroke, 
two hospitalizations and surgery to the right carotid artery.
Closely followed with occupational and speech therapy.
We are still taking it one day at a time and one step at a time.

So~o~o. . .
that being said, I'll show you the progress of Project #1!

Arriving On Crooked Creektt, nearly 13 years ago,
the Entry Hall was covered in h u g e green paisley wall paper.
Nauseating is the only term that truly describes its appearance.
NO! I have no photos of that paper!

When "Mr. Ed" and I scored and removed the wall paper,
it had not be properly applied and took huge 'chunks' 
of sheet rock off with the wall paper.

Having already viewed interior designers showing their applications
and processes for decorative home interior painting on HGTV,
I found a textured treatment that I felt confident "Mr. Ed" and I 
could apply to the damaged walls.

Simple enough.
One person applies the texture, with a roller, to the sheet rock
while the next person wets a piece of plastic wrap 
and slightly taps down the bumpy texture to give a smooth effect.

"Mr. Ed" rolled on the texture and I began the tapping process.

Problem. . .
I hadn't communicated clearly to "Mr. Ed" 
what and why I was tapping down his textural application
and while on a short break to obtain more plastic wrap and water. . .
he went back over the area bringing the bumps back.

Arrgh!
I decided rather than to cause a scene, 
I'd just give in, let him continue alone and in the near future we'd 
skim coat the walls to the proper texture I had originally planned.

Fast forward . . . 
ah~h~h!

Skim coating didn't happen in On Crooked Creektt's Entry Hall.

Instead, 
"Mr. Ed" applied 1/4 inch sheet rock atop the textured walls.

He then taped and muddied the seams.

Next,
two coats of Sherwin~Williams Sandbar SW7547 paint 
was applied over the newly installed sheet rock.

"Mr. Ed's" smile of satisfaction is mimicked by the elation I have 
at viewing the smoothness of these walls with the addition of a lighter Entry Hall!

Gone are the popcorn yellow textured walls 
of On Crooked Creektt's Entry Hall! 

Thanks to the amazing skill of "Mr. Ed",
we now have a lighter, brighter Entry Hall to welcome our family and friends.

A Frosty Welcome!

I'm sure you've had that ah~h~h moment!

You know the one.

That moment when you enter your favorite home decor shop 
and this adorable little face greets  you and melts your heart?

Could you resist???

Obviously, I couldn't!

On Crooked Creektt,
"Mr. Ed" and I styled our Entry Hall with  
A Frosty Welcome, just for you!


Simplistic changes in On Crooked Creektt's Entry Hall
welcome the onset of Winter and the promise of s n o w!

I  l o v e   s n o w!

Evergreen boughs scattered amongst over sized s n o w ball ornaments
keep visions of anticipated s n o w days On Crooked Creektt!

The two white lidded urns 
add a crisp brightness to this area during the grey skies of our Prairie Winters.

Frosty's greeting with his sweet smile and welcoming wave,
adds a ray of sunshine to my soul!


On Crooked Creektt. . .
since "Mr. Ed" and I've no place to go. . .
let it s n o w,  let it s n o w, let it s no w!

Color Comes A Calling. . .

Rearranging furniture On Crooked Creektt
has brought about a renewed appeal to the upper level Living Room.

Once I had completed renewing my Traditional style,
I turned my attention to the Entertainment Center's accessories.
As I began to boost some energy into the design style On Crooked Creektt,
color comes a calling!

My inspiration comes from this oil trilogy.
It is reminiscent of the scenery that "Mr. Ed" and I adore
during our Annual Trout Fishing Trip to Bennett Spring State Park
in Lebanon, Missouri . 

The Autumnal hues, within the oil print, give a comforting effect on our decor.
Like those in the painting, over cast skies here On Crooked Creektt, 
are an everyday occurrence in Winter.

The left side of the Entertainment Center consist mainly of subtle blue hues.

In keeping with the 2015 Design Trends,
I've added a touch of brass from "Mr. Ed's" tours in Korea.

The right side of the Entertainment Center 
highlights the subtle earth tones in the oil painting within the chosen decor.
Again, the accent of brass is prevalent in the accessory choices.

Filling out the space on either side of the Entertainment Center
are additional oil prints and wrought iron crosses.

Still needing to accent the oil trilogy,
I was thrilled to find these decorator pillows and throw
at our local Target Marketplace!

For this hopeless romantic,
the floral design makes my heart and soul sing each time I enter the room!

The herringbone throw brings a masculine touch to an otherwise feminine style.

I am thrilled with the energy that these accent pillows and throw
bring to On Crooked Creektt's upper level Living Room!

On Crooked Creektt,
color comes a calling 
within the choices of home decor accessories and design trends!
